It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to share my story in front of such an esteemed group of people, including researchers, transplant recipients and donors and celebrities. 


Kidney Research UK  are at the forefront of transforming lives are researching way to extend the lives of kidney transplant recipients.

Happy Kidneyversary to 'MEric'my donor Kidney ,  As of 15th January 2010 you have been in my body keeping me alive for the last 12 years. My Stoma Story - A Great Start to 2021

"We have to operate immediately or you could die within 24 hours "  No, this wasn't a line out of TV shows like Casualty, Grey’s Anatomy, ER, or for the older generation St Elsewhere.  This line was said to me by a very worried looking surgeon at the Prince Royal University Hospital, Orpington on 3rd January 2021.  Another worried voice from the corner of the room exclaimed "You need to sign this consent form right away, so we can prepare for the surgery right away"  Having just woken up, I thought I was in the tail end of some weird dream, exhausted I tried to roll over and go back to sleep.  "Do you understand what we said Mr Douglin?" another voice said. My Kidney Transplant Story - I Work on Spare Parts

Originally published by Kidney Research UK.  When Eric Douglin needed a kidney transplant 11 years ago, his wife, Mandi, stepped in without hesitation. The operation in January 2010 was a success, and in January 2022, Eric will be looking forward to celebrating the 12 th  anniversary since receiving his life-saving gift. He said: “When I asked Mandi why she w anted to donate her kidney to me, her response was: ‘Well, anyone would do it, wouldn't they? I have two kidneys, you need one, so it’s an easy decision. Your children and grandchildren need you in their life, as do I.’ “The fact that Mandi is white, and I am black was more remarkable insofar that we were almost a perfect match, and to date there have been no complications or issues to speak of. Mandi and I were married in June 2011 at a very emotional service full of tears and smiles, attended by my very grateful and appreciative family.” Eric was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2004.
