The Return of 'I'm Built For This Blog' Posts

Hi folks (if anyone is reading this) I've realised it's been a while since I last updated the I'm Built For This ' blog posts, so I'm back on the case.

I have been very busy with various activities, presentations and events over the last 12 months or so, sharing my story on the kidney transplant in 2010, and Stoma surgery in 2021. 

In addition to planning the return of the World Club Basketball Tournament in September 2022, the first since the Covid_19 lock down. 

As a result the previous regular blog posts and stories slipped through the net, and the blog wasn't updated as I intended. 

That's enough of my excuses, the stories and articles etc are back to shed a light and raise awareness on the impact of dealing with and overcoming invisible illnesses.

My Stoma Story - A Great Start to 2021

"We have to operate immediately or you could die within 24 hours "  No, this wasn't a line out of TV shows like Casualty, Grey’s Anatomy, ER, or for the older generation St Elsewhere.  This line was said to me by a very worried looking surgeon at the Prince Royal University Hospital, Orpington on 3rd January 2021.  Another worried voice from the corner of the room exclaimed "You need to sign this consent form right away, so we can prepare for the surgery right away"  Having just woken up, I thought I was in the tail end of some weird dream, exhausted I tried to roll over and go back to sleep.  "Do you understand what we said Mr Douglin?" another voice said. My Kidney Transplant Story - I Work on Spare Parts

Originally published by Kidney Research UK.  When Eric Douglin needed a kidney transplant 11 years ago, his wife, Mandi, stepped in without hesitation. The operation in January 2010 was a success, and in January 2022, Eric will be looking forward to celebrating the 12 th  anniversary since receiving his life-saving gift. He said: “When I asked Mandi why she w anted to donate her kidney to me, her response was: ‘Well, anyone would do it, wouldn't they? I have two kidneys, you need one, so it’s an easy decision. Your children and grandchildren need you in their life, as do I.’ “The fact that Mandi is white, and I am black was more remarkable insofar that we were almost a perfect match, and to date there have been no complications or issues to speak of.
